Thoughts on tech by Antje Kazimiers

  • Completing the challenge

Today I completed #100daystooffload! My roundup following Doug Belshaw’s post a little. It took me 339 days to finish. I wrote about programming and people I find inspiring, about communities and platforms. I think I learned a few things along the way, writing a blog post was a motivation to try something which could eventually help me for my job. Summarizing and to put it in own words gives me a way to look up and recall terms and concepts.

  • Ninety-nine

I am going to wrap up #100daystooffload with my next article. As I mentioned before, there were a couple of reasons I liked to participate in this challenge: I wanted to have a blog for a long time 100daystooffload gives you a chance to write tech articles different from those you see often in the web I liked the idea to offload things, which I kept thinking about for longer Articles are often much like “hey I figured this out and I am one of the first who did and like to tell you about it”.

  • Poetry, yay!

Some fascinating aspect of CS comes from the need to name new stuff. Languages, frameworks, concepts. It striked me again when I first head about poetry. So funny to name a tool like this, very appealing. My new package manager in Arch Linux is called yay – same thing here. Names often relate to something or someone. Python to Monty Python and Django to the guitarist Django Reinhard. I believe inventors and creators come up with names like these to show their appreciation and to create little worlds they enjoy being in.

  • Moving accounts in the Fediverse

Soon I am going to move my account from fosstodon to another instance of the Fediverse. Because fosstodon is an English speaking community but I am accouncing monthly meetings of the Freie Software Freunde e.V. in case we host a talk, which are conducted in German. So not sure yet where to go to, @social.tchncs.de maybe or some other knot. It’s interesting to have a choice though. This is day 97 of my #100daystooffload series, a challenge to write 100 blog posts in a year.

  • Wissenschaft

  • NOWHERE II

Today is the last day of rC3 – I liked the congress a lot. Much was different, not only because it took place remotely again. I checked one more time, fefe hasn’t blogged about the congress yet, he always did I believe. Frank Rieger twittered once, there won’t be a Fnord News Show just because it’s less fun without the audience. I wonder if there’s some more behind it. To show the club is changing, to give the next gen more visibility.

  • rC3 NOWHERE

In a few days the rC3 NOWHERE begins, the annual congress of the Chaos Computer Club. This year again remotely. The FSFE Women work on their spot on the map, and I hope I can translate a few talks again with the lingo team. Looking back, Tom and I must have been to all the congresses 26C3 - 29C3. We never stayed four days, usually two days and booked a room in a hotel.

  • 2021

That was 2021 – the second year of the pandemic. I struggled less than in 2020 I believe. It was good to participate in #100daystooffload. Perhaps a mistake, too, it is hard to say. Isn’t it just time-consuming and pointless? I am still recovering from surgery because of my broken foot and I am with constant headaches. I have headaches occasionally but just for a day and then they disappear. Now I have headaches every day for a week or longer and I hope it is nothing serious which comes from my medication.
