N-D cubes
Vor einigen Jahren hatte ich mal eine Visualisierung mit three.js gebaut und war ziemlich happy, dass ich das in kurzer Zeit hinbekommen habe. Ich brauchte sie für eine Präsentation, Präsentationen habe ich damals bereits mit reveal.js erstellt. Ich fand den Gedanken spannend, dass ich die Visualisierung in reveal.js hätte einbinden können und sie damit aus dem Foliensatz heraus interaktiv bewegen hätte können. Das habe ich dann nicht mehr hinbekommen, dafür fehlte mir die Zeit.

Abonnements
Ich habe viele Abonnements, vielleicht zu viele. Ich find es prinzipiell gut, für digitale Inhalte zu bezahlen, aber weil diese Inhalte digital sind, landen sie nicht in Papierform in meinem Briefkasten und es gerät schnell in Vergessenheit, wofür man im Monat seine Kröten hergibt. Das sind meine Abos: Netflix und Spotify, die Sueddeutsche Zeitung im Wochenendpaket, die taz als App fürs Phone, Heise+ und die digitalen Dresdner Neueste Nachrichten, eine Lokalzeitung muss sein.

Xiuwen
I found a new computer science lady in youtube who published a very nice video about a typical day in her life, Xiuwen. I like that her schedule differs from the standard one. Xiuwen is not working 9-5pm with a short lunch break and working out at night or in the morning hours, she is finishing up her day early in the afternoon to enjoy the sunlight and do some sports, and then she continues studying at night.

Delegated Voting, where is it now?
Around 2011 I’ve been to a couple of Chaos Communication Congresses, the annual conferences of the Chaos Computer Club. I was mostly attending talks I think on the sunny side of the spectrum, so what are the new life-changing technologies we can build with code, principles and platform which make new things possible and what is the impact on society. Like delegated voting. At that time, the Pirate Party in Germany was really successful and rising, In 2011 they won seats in the federal state parlament of Berlin and one year later in the Saarland, too.

Game of Life
Today I implemented Game of Life with the help of the CMU CS Academy graphics library. One of those things, I can’t stop thinking about, until I get it done. It works fine for the glider and some of the oscillators but the spaceships don’t seem right yet. It’s a powerful library to experiment with algorithms like these, to explore them and create your own environment, rather than just looking at animations found in the web.

Community
Letztens habe ich unter der Kategorie Talks hier alle Voträge gesammelt, die ich einmal erwähnt und verlinkt habe. Und da ist mir einer eingefallen, der mich auch bewegt hat, das war: Building Community & Supporting Others by Matt Mitchell Matt schlägt vor, Gemeinsamkeiten untereinander zu finden, die nicht mit Äußerlichkeiten zu tun haben, zum Beispiel das Elternsein, oder dass man Computerspiele mag. Und sich über diese Gemeinsamkeiten zu Communities zusammenzufinden.

Dazu gehören
Es gibt Interviews mit Maria Klawe, in denen sie erklärt, was das Problem für Minderheiten ist, wenn eine Gruppe zu homogen ist. Angehörige der Minderheit können schnell das Gefühl bekommen, dass sie nicht dazu gehören, weil die Themen, um die es geht, nicht die ihre sind. Externe Geräte
Ich kann jetzt einen 3D-Drucker bedienen. Eine VR-Brille hatte ich auch einmal auf und wenn ich Mikro-Controller ansteuern möchte, könnte ich sofort loslegen. Ein bißchen ist alles Matsch in meinem Kopf von dem was ich weiß und neu lerne, aber mir scheint es ein Fortschritt zu sein, mit anderen Techniken zutun zu haben und nicht nur Webentwicklung zu machen. Überhaupt fand für mich Informatik zu 100% an einem Computer statt und kaum darüber hinaus.

The first year with the FSFE Women
The FSFE Women exist for several months now. In April we met for the first time and once in a month since then. Usually we come up with a topic for the upcoming meeting, usually either anything technical or gender-related. We had a look at App Inventor, a platform to build mobile applications with a block-based programming language.
